This Saturday, I did a demo at Michael's to celebrate the release of the new Wilton Yearbook! Pirates are in this year so I made some cute little pirate cupcakes.
But the fun doesn't stop there! Look at the center of the cupcakes! So fun!
I'm just DYING for someone to ask me to do a wedding cake like this! Can you imagine? A beautiful, traditional wedding cake...then the bride and groom cut the cake...and behold! It's hot pink!
Oooooh, this will also be great for sports team...an orange and blue Gators cake anyone???
Hey! I'm glad to see you tried the tie dye (is that the correct spelling?)! It looks so cute! James would love these! I should have brought him to the demo, haha.
ReplyDeleteVery cute! Looks like fondant noses and ears, but what are the tops of the cupcakes covered with? Is that fondant too?
ReplyDeleteThe cupcakes were iced with a thin layer of buttercream and then fondant was placed on top of that. And, yes, the other decorations were all fondant too. :)
ReplyDeleteHow in the world did you make the cake like that? it? It would be great for my sons birthday, yes the theme is pirates!!
ReplyDeleteAnjelica, are you referring to the pirate design or the tie-dye inside the cupcake?
ReplyDeleteTo make the tie-dye, you have to use a light-colored batter (yellow or white cake, for example). Divide the batter into different bowls and color each one with food coloring. Then, gently swirl the colors together in the cake pan/baking cups just like you would if you were making a marble cake.
To make the pirate design, I covered each cupcake with a thin layer of buttercream frosting and used fondant for all the decorations. These cupcake faces were actually featured in the 2010 Wilton Yearbook so more detailed instructions can be found there. :)
