I've been a bad blogger this week. I have FOUR cakes to post from last week...and now a bunch more from this week! Not to mention, I have 2 more stringwork tutorials to post. I promise I'll catch up!
Here's one of the more fun cakes from last week:
The cake design was based on one Debbie had done in the past, and I thought it was such a cute idea to have the little monkeys peeking from behind the palm trees. I also liked the design because I didn't have to make all those little monkey bodies!
The monkey on the top of the cake was modeled after the party invitation, and he was surrounded by festive little packages!
Ooh I love the 3D monkey faces/ trees... are these modeling chocolate or fondant? :)
ReplyDeleteFondant! And super fast & easy to make!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a cute cake! Wish you lived here so you could make an end of the year cake for my 5th grade monkey-heads!
ReplyDeletedid you use fondant for the number 8? how do you get it to stand up? is it just really thick fondant? thanks!
ReplyDeleteErin, when I make numbers to stand on top of the cake, I usually use gum paste or fondant with a little Tylose/Gum Tex mixed in. I always thread a skewer up the number before it dries so that you can insert the skewer into the cake and stand the number upright. :)
ReplyDeletethanks mel!
ReplyDeleteI love your work. My 7 year old is having her bday party in December at Rainforest Cafe and this cake is absolutely perfect for the theme!! How I wish you lived in Texas!!
